[...] I am not yet back in the States (still in France) but I thought of sharing this recipe with you, which I had posted for the event organized by the lovely L. at Still Life With. Details here. In short, the theme was for participants to make a tuna tartare dish, and make it attractive as opposed to a recipe with picture published in yes you will hear well, the New York Times. Although I did not stick to the exact terms of the event, I still thought of making this dish, and you know why? Because a Spicy Tuna Tartare in a Smooth Tomato Soup is damn good! All the reasons were gathered for me. The key is to make it spicy as you like. So play with the different kinds of peppers available. [...]

Thanks!! It was really fun. It was hard work. I was so nervous when I was starting.

Now, I wish my Xander would fall asleep. He is talking in his crib and it is so late!

[...] I knew that many of my fellow bloggers could as well. I started up a challenge on my other blog (ok, one of my other blogs), Still Life With…, asking other food photographers to try their hand and post their results up on the Still Life With Flickr Pool. The photos can be of Tuna Tartare made by the photographer, or even a photo of the dish they ordered in a restaurant. Variations, such as substituting red pepper for the tuna are welcome as well. Already, I’ve seen some great shots coming in, like Spittoon Extra forwent the frisee and let the beautiful piece of tuna take the spotlight; Bea, La Tartine Gourmande, topped her tartare with a fantastic sounding combination of wasabi and ice cream; and Pim, my inspiration for this whole thing, added a vibrant shot of tartare topped with a quails egg that she found at Robuchon in Las Vegas.
Ack. I left off the direct link to the recipe first go around. Sorry about that. It's added now.

I believe that registration for NYT is free, but I've now included the recipe here in case it's not.

And yes, the challenge is for the Tuna dish, not the mackerel, although if you want to make it with mackerel, more power to you...

bit confused here - we have to do the mackerel recipe or the tuna one? Now I dont want to register for the NYT so can you provide the recipe (if that is the one we have to do). Ta.
