When I started food blogging, I was really just playing… trying something new, to see if it stuck. Turns out, it did, and now I’m contributing food-related stuff to several different blogs. I knew I enjoyed cooking and food, but was surprised to find out just how much I loved it. More than that, I was particularly smitten by food photography… making my food look gorgeous (even when it wasn’t all that good!)

As I started doing more and more research into food photography I found that there is a ton of great and not so great work going on… some in blogs, magazines, cookbooks, etc. However, what I didn’t find was much on how to make my food photography better. As my skills have improved (I’m doing quite a bit of work professionally now), I started to realize that with all the other food blogs and would-be food photographer pros and hobbiests out there, it would be great to create a site focused solely on food photography. Thus, Still Life With… was born.

What you should know about me:

  • I’m on my “second” career… freelance photography and writing about food, travel and lifestyles.
  • I don’t like cookbooks without photos. I will use them, but only begrudgingly. I need the visual to want to make the dish.
  • I love to take photos of what I make. Probably even more than eating what I make. Plus, it’s fewer calories.
  • I am terrible at spelling. I abuse apostrophes and other forms of punctuation. I don’t have an editor on this site, so feel free to send me mail if you see typos or other errors that bug you.
  • I blog in a lot of places. This blog is just food-photography stuff. My personal blog is mainly travel stuff and the occasional rant or rave. I actively post to my food blog, Cook & Eat, and you’ll often see “making of” posts on how I produced the photos here. I also have a blog directory for finding places to get great coffee and free wireless. I’ll pretty much blog anywhere I can, so if you have an idea that needs blogging, ping me.
  • I won’t recommend something on this site that I don’t like. But, for full disclosure, you should know that the links to Amazon and Cooking.com are affiliate links and if you buy through them, I do get a %. A very small %, but a % none-the-less. If this ever starts to come close to exceeding the costs of running this site, I’d be very, very surprised.
  • I run Google Ads on this site. These are clearly marked as such, and won’t be integrated into the content. I believe that you should know when I’m personally recommending something. The ads just help me pay for the various costs of running the site. In 3 months, I’ve made about $150. Not bad, but I’m certainly not rolling in extra cash. ;-)
  • If you are looking for a food photographer, give me a buzz. You can find my portfolio on LaraFerroni.com.
  • I’m glad you are here! Feel free to leave me comments. I love comments!
